McCain and Obama as Warhol and Basquiat

Warhol and BasquiatThe reference above is to this image in case you do not know it.  I found this work on The Obama Art Report.  There are many to choose from but this one quickly stood out to me.  There are many works around the web dedicated to the elections.  If you know of any please share them with us in the comments below.

L.A.S.E.R. Tag - by Graffiti Research Lab
1 PC Laptop - ASUS A8JS - Core 2 Duo 1.83 Ghz 1GB Ram Nvideo Geforce Go 7300 256MB - VGA and DVI out.
1 Pansonic PTD5600U 5000 ANSI Lumens 1024×768 DLP Projector.
1 Watec 221S Security/Astrononmy Camera with manual iris zoom lens.
1 Bogen magic arm and super clamp.
1 Pinnacle PCTV USB capture card.
1 60mW Green Laser (super illegal in a lot of places and very dangerous)
and loads and loads of AAA batteries.

I have been a fan of these guys for a couple of years and the first project that I found was the LED Throwies.  Not only does their work rock, but the projects are also open source. (ie - they tell you how to make them, for the non-geek readers)

I Met the Walrus - by Jerry Levitan, Josh Haskins, Alex Kurina, James Braithwaite
“In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it.”

The Invaders! - by Douglas Edric Stanely

Installation for the 30 year celebration of Space Invaders.  From what I understand, this was built on technology that Stanley had previous made.  The video also looks to be over a year old.  The installation features Space Invaders attacking the Twin Towers in New York.  I don’t have to tell you that this guy is getting a lot of attention, but I felt I needed to post it to our audience.

phun 2d drawing animation physics
Allow me to geek out for a moment as I highlight some cool drawing/animation tool concepts.  The video below demonstrates some possibilities on a smart board.   While the example itself is no artistic wonder, it does exhibit ways we may be able to interact with digital tools in the near future.

An open source desktop version of this, Phun, is available free to download.  Fair warning, this is an addictive little toy.
